‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’ manages to combine sci-fi speculative fiction and surrealism to create film that manages to make sense, which in both genres is a virtue that is often neglected. Furthermore, it explores many aspects of relationships including clashing personalities, rough breakups and sacrifice to name a few. These aspects are brought together by well thought out writing/directing and talented actors to create a movie experience that’s both amusing and moving.
After ending a long term relationship, Clementine ops to erase her former partner Joel from her memory by undergoing a fictional medical procedure. When Joel finds out about this, he wants the same procedure done to him. However, when Joel has to relive the memories of his relationship, he doesn’t want to forget about Clementine.
