What are you reading now? This is a question I am asked by (and ask of) students and staff regularly. And, yes, I have the New York Public Library tote bag to match!

According to author, entrepreneur and journalist, William Schwalbe, this question can change lives, creating a shared universe for people who are otherwise separated by culture and age and by time and space.”

Whilst we do not need an excuse, on 14 February 2019 the students and staff of Trinity Grammar School will have a popular reason to ask one another “What are you reading now?”

Known to the common man as Valentine’s Day, the bibliophiles of the world have claimed this Christian feast day of love and affection to celebrate all things literary related under the banner of Library Lovers’ Day!

Library Lovers’ Day is celebrated annually in libraries across Australia and internationally, including the Arthur Holt, Junior School and Preparatory School libraries at Trinity Grammar School.

This year, aligned to the 2019 theme of  ‘Library Love Stories’ the Arthur Holt Library team is encouraging staff and students at the Senior School to focus their celebrations on storytelling.

“Storytelling is what happens when a Story is told, face to face, eye to eye, mind to mind, heart to heart. The Story is intimately known by the Teller… and shared, like a gift, with the audience.” – The Australian Storytelling Guild (NSW)

We want to hear your stories about the books you’re reading now or read over the summer or are stacked up to be read on your bedside table at home! We want to know about the books that have changed you in some way or helped you through a time in your life or taught you a lesson.

What are you reading now? is a simple but powerful question. This year we challenge you to share your story. Visit the Arthur Holt Library in Week 3 of Lent term to access the literary love!
